Welcome to De Zavala Elementary; The home of the De Zavala Dragons! We are currently housed in the Schochler Elementary building at 910 Deer Pass in Channelview, Texas for this school year.. Our new building will be ready in January of 2024. Students and staff will have opportunities to visit and experience the new building once it is completed. We are excited to announce that we will begin the 2024-2025 school year in our new state of the art facility!
As you walk through the doors of De Zavala, you will feel the warm and nurturing atmosphere. We have students in Kindergarten through fifth grade who are excited to be a part of our school. De Zavala has an outstanding staff whose goal is to help each of our students reach their fullest potential both academically and socially.
Our students have one-to-one access to iPads or Chromebooks in every classroom. Each of our classrooms also has an LCD projector, an interactive whiteboard, and a document camera. Our students learn keyboarding skills, use a variety of online resources, and create many technology-integrated projects to enhance the different curriculum areas.
Our staff takes part in continuous professional learning to ensure that they are always current in the latest developments in education. Our staff engages in collaborative practices that helps us to grow as a Professional Learning Community. Our staff is trained in a Balanced Literacy approach to reading instruction which provides a comprehensive program connecting reading, phonics, writing, and language arts. The teachers model components, strategies, and techniques to increase students' reading and writing skills. We want all students to become successful, independent readers and writers. Our staff also utilizes in the 5E model for Math and Science instruction. As a result, students are provided with hands-on, concrete opportunities for learning concepts. Our focus is teaching the TEKS in depth to all students in all subject areas.
