About Me

Welcome! I was born in Houston, TX to two amazing, loving, hardworking Mexican immigrants and grew up in a rough area of the city. I wanted to honor my parents, give thanks to my country of birth, and thought about the best way to be a gamechanger. I chose to join the Texas Army National Guard at the tender age of 17 with my parents' consent and was sent to my first and only deployment in 2009 to Iraq. It was a very interesting year (just ask me about it!) and I definitely made some lasting friendships with other service members that I still maintain to this day. Once I returned, I had a beautiful daughter in 2011, then I married my wonderful husband (who also deployed with me) the following year. After putting much thought into how I could continue helping create a better environment in my country, I decided to take on the teaching profession. I graduated from University of Houston Clear Lake with my degree in teaching. It was definitely a struggle juggling being a homemaker, parent, and student all at once, but I believed in my capabilities and believed this was not impossible.

Some of my hobbies include watching Marvel and Star Wars movies, documentaries, reading young adult books, like the Hunger Games and the very amazing Harry Potter series, and cheering and motivating my daughter and her softball team as the dugout mom. I particularly enjoy watching informational documentaries that dive into issues our world, even our country, has faced throughout time. History has a tendency to repeat itself if we don't learn from our mistakes along the way, and so I find it therapeutic when I see and hear the many sides of the issue and the results that affected people across the world, and even Americans in our nation. In terms of softball, I'm that mom who is always jeering and making sure the team gets pumped up.( Sorry, not sorry!)

To my students: Life can sometimes be complicated. Know that the world is your oyster. What you decide to make of that pearl inside is up to you. You have so many possible choices, so make the best of it. You are the future of the nation, be informed, and if you make a mistake along the way, own it and learn from it. We are all learners (that includes me), so don't give up and be an exemplary citizen I hope that you all aspire to be. Be a gamechanger!

Im so excited to reach each one of my students though effective learning experiences in person and though distance learning online! Each class period has a google Classroom set up and each student will be added with their student account.Daily assignments as well as major projects will be made available either electronically (Classroom) or in person.
